20 Lafcarr sirens simultaneously alerted the population last Wednesday, November 2nd, in the first drill of the External Emergency Plan for the chemical sector of Tarragona (PLASEQTA), carried out by the Generalitat together with Civil Protection and with the aim of practicing real lockdown.
The drill, estimated to have affected more than 65,000 people, took place at 6:30 p.m. when the Lafcarr population warning sirens located at different points in the area were activated (10 in the municipality of Tarragona, 2 in La Canonja, 6 in Vila-seca, and 2 in Salou).
The test aimed for the population around the southern industrial park of Tarragona to practice real lockdown for 15 minutes, as the main self-protection measure in the event of a chemical risk, and to identify the sound of the sirens. When the alert sounds were heard, residents who were outdoors had to confine themselves at home or in the nearest building, closing doors and windows and turning off air conditioning units. Once the end-of-alert sirens were activated, the lockdown was considered over.
In this way, Lafcarr is once again present in another population warning drill conducted successfully.
