Emergency Alert System Installed at Bárcena Dam
The Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation has initiated the deployment of an acoustic warning system for flood emergencies in the area surrounding Bárcena Dam. This initiative is part of the official emergency plan for high-risk hydraulic infrastructures in the region.
Sirens to Cover the Flood-Prone Area
A total of ten electronic sirens will be installed, ensuring complete acoustic coverage from the Bárcena Dam to the N-536 road near Villalibre, and across the Barredos stream from the Collado dyke to Bárcena del Bierzo.
This system aims to improve public safety in the event of a serious incident involving any of the three critical structures:
Bárcena Dam
Collado Dyke
Fuente del Azufe hydraulic point
These assets form a single operational unit classified as Category A, which requires strict compliance with emergency preparedness standards.
Dual Activation Points for Fast Response
In case of a potential rupture or failure, the sirens can be activated from:
The emergency control room in Bárcena
The central basin control center in Ourense
This redundancy ensures a fast and coordinated response to protect residents in the potentially affected zones.
Enhancing Risk Management and Community Protection
The implementation of this early warning system strengthens the region’s ability to respond to natural risks, meeting all national guidelines for dam safety and civil protection.
