SEVESO-compliant acoustic alert system in Galicia’s industrial zones
We have developed an Acoustic Warning System for SEVESO alerts in the provinces of La Coruña and Pontevedra.
We implemented a system of emergency sirens for chemical risk, fully compliant with the SEVESO Directive, across critical industrial areas in the provinces of A Coruña and Pontevedra. This project is part of the regional civil protection strategy to safeguard the population in case of chemical accidents involving hazardous substances.
The system consists of 8 high-power omnidirectional electronic sirens, providing optimal acoustic coverage for both the Immediate Protection Area (PPI) and the Extended Protection Area (POI). All sirens are interconnected through redundant GSM/GPRS and PMR radio channels, ensuring communication robustness and operational continuity even under adverse conditions.
Four local control centers have been set up in A Coruña, Pontevedra, and at the industrial facility in Mugardos, backed by a centralized operations center at 112 Galicia in Santiago de Compostela. From this hub, the entire system can be managed and triggered remotely.
The network is remotely supervised using the COMSIR SCADA software, which allows real-time monitoring and control through a secure web interface. This ensures rapid and coordinated response in any emergency situation.
Beyond fulfilling the SEVESO III Directive, this acoustic warning system is scalable and replicable, providing a robust model for high-risk industrial zones throughout Europe. Galicia is thereby positioned as a reference in industrial safety and chemical emergency management.
