In emergencies such as a dam failure, every second can make a difference. Anticipation and the ability to trigger effective warning mechanisms are essential to minimise risks and protect lives.
Lafcarr has been selected by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) to develop and install a new public warning system around the Foix dam, in the municipality of Cubelles (Barcelona).
🔐 A key project for public safety
The project is part of the Emergency Plan for the risk of failure of the Foix dam and involves installing five emergency sound systems at strategic points in the flood zone.
These devices will emit clear, effective warning signals so that people can act quickly in a real emergency. Each system is designed to provide optimum coverage of the affected area, in line with the authority's technical requirements.
⚙️ iDAM integration: remote control and smart management
One of the project's distinguishing features is its integration with iDAM, Lafcarr's own software for critical infrastructure management.
The platform enables remote siren activation, real-time monitoring, checks on each system's operational status and connection to response protocols and control centres.
The system therefore not only ensures effective warning but also provides centralised, secure and automated management, which is essential in emergency scenarios.
🚧 Installation under way, drills to follow
Lafcarr is currently carrying out the installation work, which also includes building an operations base next to the reservoir from which the system can be monitored.
Once deployment is complete, live tests and drills will be held with the ACA and the emergency services to check range, validate response times and train response teams.
