Siren drill in Sabiñánigo to strengthen chemical safety
On 18 March, the Government of Aragon Emergency Service, together with Sabiñánigo Town Council and Lafcarr Project & Design, carried out a successful siren drill to test the public warning system for possible chemical emergencies.
Testing the early warning system
The exercise involved activating the sirens installed by Lafcarr, designed specifically for outdoor audible warnings. In total, three sirens strategically placed around the town were used. The warning protocol included three one-minute wailing signals to mark the start of the emergency and a continuous 30-second signal to announce the end of the alert.
The drill falls under the safety protocols set by the SEVESO Directive, which governs the prevention of accidents involving dangerous substances. Sabiñánigo has four companies subject to these regulations.
Positive assessment from Civil Protection
The test was overseen by the Director-General for Civil Protection, Carmen Sánchez, who praised the system's correct operation and the coordinated response of the authorities involved.
Exercises like this are essential to ensure that, in a real emergency, the people of Sabiñánigo know the procedures and can react quickly and safely.
