The Castrovido dam emergency plan implemented by Lafcarr continues with a preparedness drill for a possible incident

On Thursday 30 July, a drill was held as part of the implementation of the Castrovido Dam Emergency Plan to test communication, notification and coordination protocols between the various authorities for different emergency scenarios.

The day included sound tests of the Castrovido dam's public warning points, which sounded successfully for five minutes. The four sirens are installed in Terrazas, Castrovido, Salas de los Infantes and La Revilla to warn of a possible fault or failure of the dam.

Communication, notification and inter-agency coordination tests and drills are required both by the dam's emergency plan and by Civil Protection regulations, and are part of the work prior to bringing the dam into service. These initiatives also test how effective the Emergency Plans are while conveying the need to embed a culture of prevention and involve the public and authorities.

Those taking part included officials from the Douro River Basin Authority, Civil Protection staff from the Government Sub-Delegation in Burgos and the Regional Government of Castile and León, and Lafcarr's Managing Director Ricardo Carreras.
