Endesa and Lafcarr test the emergency siren network at five dams in Zamora
On 24 June 2019, an emergency siren drill was held at five dams in the municipality of Galende, in the province of Zamora. The test was organised by Endesa together with Lafcarr as part of dam safety plans for critical infrastructure.
Sound test at Puente Porto, Playa, Garandones, Cárdena and Vega de Conde
The siren network was activated between 10:00 and 12:30, and could be heard in areas such as the Moncabril mountains and various parts of Galende, including Ribadelago Nuevo and Ribadelago Viejo.
Goal: improving dam safety
These tests are part of dam emergency plans, designed to warn the public of incidents affecting the normal operation of the infrastructure. The siren system issues audible warnings to ensure rapid evacuation of potentially affected areas.
On-site technical supervision and validation
The Implementation Committee, which oversees these safety plans, supervised the test on site to validate the sound reach and effectiveness of the installed devices, including those at the Moncabril hydroelectric plant.
Institutional involvement
The Regional Government of Castile and León, the Directorate-General for Civil Protection and the Douro River Basin Authority attended. Although it was a drill, the test made it possible to assess the system's response times and effectiveness.
Note: this test was carried out purely for technical purposes and did not involve any real risk.
