In partnership with Cardoner Group and the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), Lafcarr has deployed a new early warning system with 12 sirens to protect the population and critical infrastructure in the Berguedà region.
Water safety is a key pillar in anticipating risk and protecting both lives and strategic assets. In this context, the La Baells Reservoir, located in the Berguedà region (Barcelona), takes a significant step forward by upgrading its Emergency Action Plan with a new public alert system, designed and implemented by Lafcarr.
A Critical Infrastructure with High-Risk Potential
La Baells dam plays a fundamental role in regulating the Llobregat River and supplying water to the Barcelona Metropolitan Area. Due to its structure and strategic location, it has been classified as a Category A infrastructure, indicating high potential risk.
In such scenarios, anticipating risk is key to protecting the future. That’s why the ACA has promoted a comprehensive update of the dam’s Emergency Action Plan, investing in cutting-edge, locally manufactured technology.
Key Actions by Lafcarr
As part of a joint venture with Cardoner Group, Lafcarr implemented the following:
Deployment of 12 high-powered electronic sirens along the riverbanks, equipped with autonomous power supply and redundant communication systems (TETRA + GPRS).
Integration of iDAM software, enabling centralized emergency management with real-time scenario monitoring and incident tracking.
Coordination with the Generalitat’s telecom network and Civil Protection control centers.
Remote activation capabilities from CECAT (Catalonia’s Emergency Coordination Center).
These measures significantly improve emergency response capabilities and reinforce public confidence downstream.
Proprietary Technology for Civil Protection
Lafcarr designs, manufactures, and integrates all components of the alert system: from electronic sirens to centralized software. This in-house capability ensures highly reliable, customized solutions and ongoing technical support throughout the system’s lifespan.
The La Baells project is a clear example of how engineering applied to safety can bridge the gap between prevention and improvisation.
