On 30 July, a drill was held as part of the implementation of the Castrovido dam emergency plan, coordinated by the Duero River Basin Authority (CHD) and carried out by Lafcarr. The main aim of the exercise was to check the communication, notification and coordination protocols between the different authorities in possible emergency scenarios.
How the drill went
During the day, sound tests of the public warning points were carried out, each lasting five minutes. The four sirens installed in Terrazas, Castrovido, Salas de los Infantes and La Revilla worked satisfactorily, alerting the public to a possible fault or failure of the dam. These tests are part of the work prior to bringing the dam into service and are required by both the emergency plan and Civil Protection regulations.
Lafcarr and the iDam platform
Lafcarr played a key role in the drill through its iDam platform, an advanced tool for managing and activating emergency plans at hydraulic infrastructure. The iDam platform enabled efficient coordination between the CHD, Civil Protection at the Government Sub-Delegation in Burgos, the Regional Government of Castile and León and Lafcarr's technical team, led by Managing Director Ricardo Carreras.
The importance of a culture of prevention
Drills like this are essential for testing how effective emergency plans are and for fostering a culture of prevention among the public and authorities. Cooperation between public and private bodies, together with innovative technologies such as Lafcarr's iDam platform, strengthens the ability to respond to incidents at critical infrastructure such as the Castrovido dam
