The Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML) has initiated the installation of a state-of-the-art tsunami warning system aimed at safeguarding residents and visitors from potential maritime threats. This proactive measure underscores the city’s commitment to disaster preparedness and public safety.

The newly implemented system comprises:
Four strategically placed warning sirens: Ensuring comprehensive coverage of vulnerable areas.
Two control centers: Facilitating real-time monitoring and management of alerts.

Notably, this system is designed to be interoperable with the existing infrastructure in Cascais, promoting regional coordination during emergencies.

The contract for this critical project has been awarded to Lafcarr Project & Design, a Spanish firm renowned for its expertise in early warning solutions. The total investment amounts to €48,500, excluding VAT, reflecting Lisbon’s dedication to enhancing the safety of its populace.
