CoastWave Project: Strengthening the Resilience of Coastal Communities to the Impact of Tsunamis

This project is designed to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable coastal communities in North-East Atlantic, Mediterranean Tsunami Warning System (NEAMTWS) countries to tsunamis and other sea level-related hazards. At the end of the project selected communities will have improved understanding of tsunami and sea-level related risks; better communication strategies to govern sea-level related risk, recognized Tsunami Ready communities; as well as an improved framework for the sustainability of the existing Inexpensive Device for Sea Level (IDSL) Network.

Project Highlights:

  1. Adapt global Tsunami Ready standards and pilot the program in the region.
  2. Install tsunami detection and alert equipment.
  3. Evaluate and ensure the sustainability of the IDSL network.

Project Outcomes:

  1. Strengthened commitment of NEAMTWS Member States to the Tsunami Ready programs.
  2. Improved communication and understanding of risks in selected communities.
  3. Better-prepared coastal communities to respond to sea level-related hazards.
  4. Enhanced access to early detection and alert technology.
  5. Long-term sustainability of the IDSL network.
